The Content Marketing Canon

1. Thou shalt NOT cram anything down anyone’s throat.

2. Thou shalt instead have a compelling offer and let the world know about it without shame, shrinking, or hedging.

3. Thou shalt NOT make an ass of you and me by assuming you understand everything, or that you can read people’s minds, or that you know what the market needs.

4. Thou shalt instead communicate in terms other people understand, get feedback from, and listen to your potential customer, and be humble enough to learn from others.

5. Thou shalt NOT perpetuate the rat race, a dog eat dog world, or use fear to manipulate people.

6. Thou shalt instead work like it’s play, help others freely, and trust that you and your tribe are provided for.

7. Thou shalt NOT be boring, meandering, or vague.

8. Thou shalt instead communicate sticky, or hire a writer who can do it for you.

9. Thou shalt NOT care about money more than humans.

10. Because work can be a contribution to the people you care about and a world you love.

11. There are no commandments, no rules, and only the limitations you accept.

Dude. Can you make this into a cool looking PDF download or a business card sized template or something? This is a great reminder! I’d love to be able to send people here to download and print.

Sticky means catchy. LIke a jingle, or story that is easily remembered. This concept was made popular by Chip and Dan Heath with a book called Made to Stick
