It’s 2012, Let your freak flag fly!

The beat nicks started it and the hippies normalized it.The punks, skaters, and grunge rockers diversified it but Hip hop is the trend that spread it international.

Let’s face it, being weird is in style and its here to say.

The new agers are weird too, and a little too lovey, but love is what the world needs so we can be grateful for them.
The goths are endearing even if they want us to think they are fierce.

…and after all its 2012. All of us weirdos can come out of the closet and let our freak flags fly.

Some people make resolutions for the new year. I won’t. But I’m not adverse to a little prophecy.  I predict that in 2012 more people will make money with wild weird and crazy ideas then ever before. I have put my ear to the ground and felt the rumblings of outlandish opportunity for creative people like you to get paid for your oddball essence.

Since this is the first post of 2012, lets set the tone right.  If you are creative and smart you can get paid. Period. End of story.

But if you want to have that storybook ending you have to be willing to take the hero’s journey. (or heroine’s) Joseph Campbell is well known by some, and yet unheard of by others. His influence on our culture is colossal by producing a master story that influenced the likes of George Lucas and a whole generation of filmmakers and story tellers. If you insist on making a resolution this year let it be this: Embrace your journey fully, as THE hero or heroine of your life. This is not arrogance, it is actually humility to recognize the gift of the essence within you and commit to bringing it into the world.

“The only question in life is whether or not you are going to answer a hearty ‘YES!’ to your adventure.”–Joseph Campbell

Digges… since my parents were raging hippies, when I wear a suit, does that make me a freaky person? It seems like a radical thing for me to do. I like to think that if Jimi were still alive, he would add a line to 6 were 9 about wearing a suit like Santana does now… looking really smooth.

Now if 6 turned out to be 9,
    I don’t mind, I don’t mind,
Alright, if all the hippies cut off all their hair,
    I don’t care, I don’t care.
Dig, ‘cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain’t gonna copy you.

White collared conservative flashing down the street,

Pointing their plastic finger at me.
They’re hoping soon my kind will drop and die,
But I’m gonna wave my freak flag high, high.
    Wave on, wave on
Fall mountains, just don’t fall on me
Go ahead on Mr. Business man, you can’t dress like me.
Sing on Brother, play on drummer.

    (new verse)
    Since I don’t mind
I think I will dress real fine
    Be smooth like Santana
    But still wear the bandana
    And tie dye underwear
    I don’t care
    I don’t care

      Seth,

Funny man. Definitely. wearing a suit is a radical act in some cultures. And the title of this article is definitely inspired by Rockers from the 70s… but its not Jimi or Carlos.

      Anyone know the reference?
